U.S. Consulate Cape Town Pop-Up American Corner Initiative
aboutus
The U.S. Consulate in Cape Town launched its Pop-Up American Corner initiative in May 2018. The project is modeled after the American Corner in Cape Town, a space where Americans, South Africans, and other global citizens can connect to exchange culture and ideas, learn 21st Century skills, create and innovate together.
Recognizing the strong appetite among South Africa’s youth, young adults, and entrepreneurs for more opportunities to learn critical global skills – especially in the townships and cities like Kimberley, East London, King William’s Town, George, and Knysna-- this initiative will offer quarterly “pop-up” programs and training on topics such as computer coding, entrepreneurship, 3D printing, leadership, and career-building.

In each location, we partner with the municipality and/or local NGOs to provide venues, wifi access, and help us build a dedicated audience for the program. The U.S. Consulate covers the costs for instructors and guest speakers, their travel, and other related expenses to ensure that participation for members of the public is free of charge.
